Reds baseball/softball camp
Sign-ups are underway for the Cincinnati Reds’ baseball and softball camps. The Lexington camp is June 18-22 and is open to boys and girls ages 6-14. The camp will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. M-F and will include 30 hours of instruction as well as skill development, competition and camaraderie. “It doesn’t matter if your athlete is six and picking up a bat for the first time or fourteen and is the best shortstop for the tri-state’s top travel team, this camp will profoundly improve each player’s ability to play the game,” Tim Rappe, the executive director of the Reds Baseball Camps, said in a release. Campers will be given a full Reds uniform, four tickets to a 2012 Reds game and a special graduation certificate. On one of the five camp days participants will be transported by bus to Great American Ball Park for a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of the bullpens, dugouts, batting cages, media room, broadcast booths and clubhouse. The camp includes special instruction from a Reds coach plus a guest appearance by a current Reds star. Each camper will get to compete in a skills competition with the championship held at Great American Ball Park. Campers will also have their swing recorded and analyzed by the camp video specialist using the same technology employed by the Reds. Other camp dates and locations include: June 25-29 in Indianapolis; July 9-13 in Cincinnati; July 16-20 in Columbus, Ohio; July 30-Aug. 3 in Dayton, Ohio; and Aug. 13-17 in Cincinnati. Coach Cal’s camps at CAL
University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari will be holding a pair of camps June 21 at Christian Academy of Louisville. British Soccer Camp
The Shelby County Parks & Rec will host a “British Soccer Camp” June 25-29 for ages 6-14. Each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,100 British soccer coaches flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.

Cornerstone Christian basketball camp
Cornerstone Christian Academy will be have an instructional basketball camp for boys and girls July 31-Aug. 3. The morning session, for those entering first-fifth grades, will run from 9 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session, for those entering sixth-ninth grade, will run from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $60 if paid and registered by July 20. Cost is $70 after July 20. The camp will be led by former Cornerstone Christian Coach Chris Armstrong and current Cornerstone Coach Jason Bradshaw. There will also be special speakers each day. This year’s special speaker will be former University of Kentucky and Boston Celtics player Rick Robey. The camp will focus on individual instruction for offensive moves such as dribbling techniques, using screens to get open, shooting techniques, ball fakes, post moves and defensive techniques. The afternoon session will be attended by current NAIA coaches looking for future players. Each session is limited to the first 70 campers that sign up.
