Youth football sign-ups
The Shelby County/Puss Greenwell Youth Football League will have sign-ups Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Daniel Field. Forms are also available at the FAC through Aug. 5 (the last day to sign-up). Evaluation Camp dates and times for first-year players or those moving up a league are as follows: Kindergarten-2nd grade at 11:30 a.m. July 30; grades 3-4 6-7 p.m. July 26 & 28; grades 5-6 7-8 p.m. July 26 & 28. Lady Titan softball camp July 25-28
The 2011 Lady Titan Softball Camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon July 25-28. Cost is $50. Registration on July 25 will begin at 8 a.m. All girls going into grades 1-8 may attend. For more information contact Collins Coach Jim Axline at 502-379-9518.
Habitat for Humanity golf scramble
Habitat for Humanity of Shelby County is planning its fifth annual Drive It Home Charity golf scramble for July 25 at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville. The cost is $100 per play, or $400 per team. There will be a silent acution and door prizes to be given away, including a $1,000 cash prize, PGA Tournament getaway and a sports prize package. All proceeds go toward the construction of homes. There will be an Upward Soccer Camp from 9 a.m. until noon Aug. 1-3 at the Shelby County Parks’ Pee Wee soccer fields. The camp is for those ages 4-11. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt, soccer ball, and water bottle. Each participate needs to bring comfortable shoes, shin guards, and sun screen (some slightly used equipment will be available). Fee is $50 with some need scholarships available. Registration forms can be picked up at Bob Hook of Shelbyville, Shelby Parks and Rec., or by sending an e-mail request to email@example.com. Registration deadline is July 23. Kids will be divided by ages and skill level and the camp is designed to both introduce soccer to those who have not played as well as those kids who have had some or a lot of experience. Cornerstone b’ball camp
Cornerstone Christian Academy will host a basketball camp for boys and girls Aug. 1-4. The camp will be led by former Shelby County High School coach Tom Creamer, former Cornerstone Christian Academy Coach Chris Armstrong and current Shelby County Lady Celtics coach John Raizor. The camp will feature former Kentucky Wildcat and Boston Celtics player Rick Robey. It will also have Cumberland College girls coach Eddie Mahan and other College coaches. The camp will focus on individual instruction, offensive moves, ball-handling and ball control, shooting, passing, defensive techniques and agility. Each day there will be a guest speaker, including college coaches and former players. Those entering first through fifth grade will be in the 9 a.m.-noon camp. Those entering sixth through ninth grade will be in the 1-4 p.m. afternoon session. Cost of the camp is $60. Quarterback/backfield specialized camp
Shelby County Parks & Rec is offering a quarterback/backfield specialized youth football camp from 9 a.m. until noon July 26-28 at Clear Creek Park. The camp, which will be run by Shelby County Parks and the Collins High School coaching staff and current and former players, is for grades 1-8. Cost is $50 and proceeds will be split between Collins and the Puss Greenwell League. The emphasis will be on learning the skill positions of quarterback, running back and wide receiver and will feature 7-on-7 and other skilled position drills. Upward b’ball camp
Highland Baptist Church is offering an Upward Basketball Camp for boys and girls in grades K-6 Aug. 8-13. Cost is $25 through July 25, and $30 thereafter. Space is limited. The boys’ session will run M-F in the mornings from 9-11:45 a.m. and the girls’ session will be M-F (except Wednesday) from 6-8:45 p.m. and from 9-11:45 a.m. Saturday.

The costs of the leagues are Pee-Wee (4-6-year-olds) $45, Under 8 (6-8) $60, Under 10 (8-10) $60, Under 12 (10-12) $60, Rec Plus teams $80 and Select teams $100. Shelby County football reverse raffle
The Shelby County football “Reverse Raffle” will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 8 at Claudia Sanders Dinner House. The grand prize is $5,000. Kickball league sign-ups
Shelby County Parks & Rec is offering a 2011 Fall Kickball League, which will take place Monday nights at Clear Creek Softball Field. The league, for ages 14 & up, begins Aug. 15 and ends Oct. 10 with a minimum of six teams and a maximum of 16 teams. Cost is $275 per team. Sign-up deadline is 6 p.m. Aug. 7. Shelby County Parks & Rec is offering a fall men’s softball league, which will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $425 per team with a roster of 20 players. Deadline is Aug. 21. Allen Dennis golf scramble
The Allen Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund golf scramble will be Aug. 13 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Taylorsville. There will be a 8 a.m. Cost is $50. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Applications being taken for quota hunts near Richmond
Applications are now being taken for quota hunts at the 15,000-acre Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond. In addition to hunts for deer, dove and turkey, depot officials are adding waterfowl and rabbit hunting this year. The application deadline for mentor and adult hunts for dove is June 30. The deadline to apply for all other hunts is July 31. The depot is no longer accepting mailed paper applications. Anyone who wishes to apply for a hunt must do so online at: https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/bluegrassrectrac.html or search the Internet under the keywords, “Blue Grass Army Depot morale and recreation activities.” Hunters must create an online account to apply. Application fees are $10 for the first hunt and $2 for each additional hunt, payable online only. Hunts offered at the depot include a dove mentor hunt on Sept. 3; an all-ages dove hunt on Sept.17; deer hunts on Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3; and turkey hunts in October, December and April, among others. Depot officials will also offer several youth hunts for dove, deer, turkey and rabbit. The area is managed for trophy deer, with a 15-inch minimum width restriction for bucks.
