4H Shooting Sports meeting
Shelby County 4H Shooting Sports is having an organizational meeting, and new member sign-ups, at 6:30 p.m. March 6 at the Shelby County Extension Office. Boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 19 may participate in archery (recurve and compound), BB, pellet, .22s and trap. Club members learn about safety and have the option to test their skills in competitions. Most equipment is provided. The season runs through the end of September. Registration for 2012 is $3. Max Power softball tryouts

Mount Moriah 5K walk/run
Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Mount Eden is sponsoring a 5 K walk/run from 8-10 a.m. March 24. Cost is $25 and all participants will receive a T-shirt. Weissinger Hills extends season-pass offer
Weissinger Hills Golf Course has extended its discounted season passes. The season pass offers include individual weekday with, and without, a cart, and individual 7-day passes with, or without, a cart. There are also family passes and junior passes available. Golfers choosing to pay the entire cost of the selected season pass by the end of February will receive a 5% discount when paying by cash or check. For an individual 7-day pass with cart that could mean a discount of over $60. Golfers can also choose to pay half now for the passes, and the other half by May 1, but the discounts would not be applicable. Discounted range passes are also available. Although not a membership, a season pass does allow the holder to make tee times two weeks in advance. Applications are also now being taken for Weissinger Hills Golf Association memberships. This membership provides USGA Handicapping, monthly tournaments, Wednesday night league play, special activities throughout the season and an annual awards banquet. Weissinger Hills offers junior head start program
Weissinger Hills Golf Course is offering an eight-week Junior Acceleration Program running March 6 through May 2. PGA Professional Bryan Slone will be conducting group instruction and lessons on ‘How to Practice with a Purpose,’ and still have fun. Classes for girls will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on Tuesdays; boys’ classes will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesdays. An orientation and registration evening for all interested participants will be from 6-7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the golf course, with pizza provided. Participants can also sign up by calling the course at 633-7332, or via email at email@example.com. Class size will be limited to a maximum of ten per group, and cost for the 8-week Program is $100 per student.
Youth soccer sign-ups
Shelby County Parks and Rec. is offering sign-ups for spring soccer leagues. League games will be played mostly on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. Leagues are as follows: Pee-Wee (4-6-year-olds), cost is $50; Under 8 (6-8-year-olds), cost is $75; Under 10 (8-10-year-olds), cost is $75; Under 12 (10-12-year-olds), cost is $75; Rec plus teams, cost is $100; Select teams, cost is $125. T-Ball (4-6-year-olds) cost is $50. Instructional (7-8-year-olds) cost is $75. Minor (9-10-year-olds) cost is $75. Major (11-12-year-olds) cost is $75. Babe Ruth (13-15-year-olds) cost is $75. Shelby County Parks and Rec. is offering sign-ups for spring girls’ fast-pitch softball leagues. Child’s age as of Dec. 31, 2012 will determine their proper league. Spring instructional b-ball league
First Baptist Church is having a spring instructional basketball league for boys and girls beginning March 24. The camp will be led by former Cornerstone Christian Coach Chris Armstrong and former Anderson County coach Wayne KIng and Campbellsville women’s basketball coaches. There will also be a guest speaker each week. The league will focus on individual instruction, offensive moves, ball handling and ball control, shooting, passing defensive techniques and agility. The ages and times are 9 a.m.-noon for 1st-5th graders; 1-4 p.m. for th-9th graders. Cost is $55 if paid and registered by March 10, or $65 after March 10.
