Shelby’s Antonio Soler JIminez was eliminated from the State Tennis Tournament when he was defeated 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 by Henry Clay’s Brad Merchant in the second round.

“He fell behind in the first set 4-1 and came roaring back to win 6-4,” Rocket Coach Jerry Buchert said. “His serve just failed him. We were all scratching our heads because he hasn’t done that all year. There were some great points in the game, but way too many double faults.” Soler Jiminez also had trouble with his serve in the first round Thursday morning. He defeated Elizabethtown’s Bilal Ahmed 6-0, 6-2. The cramping that plagued Soler Jiminez in the regional tournament weren’t a factor at state. “He was pretty efficient, so he wasn’t out there very long,” Buchert said.
