The SCHS boys’ soccer team needed to beat North Oldham on Thursday to earn the No. 2 seeding in the 16th District Tournament, which starts next week.

The Rockets (8-3-5, 2-0-2 in the district), did more than just win at North Oldham; they sent a message by dominating the Mustangs (6-10-1, 1-3), 4-0.

Scoring a combined eight goals in their last two games, the Rockets seem to have figured out their scoring issues.

“I think we’ve built up a little confidence there,” Coach B.J. Andriot said. “We played really, really well all over the field, especially early.”

The Rockets set the tone inside the first three minutes when Luis Cervantes scored off an assist from Nery Arreaga.

Taylor Shaver added two goals, and Sawyer Abshire closed the scoring.

“It was nice to score early like that,” Andriot said. “We’ve had opportunities to score early in several big games this year, but didn’t convert. That’s something we need to try keep doing so we can put pressure on the other team.”

The Rockets will begin play in the 16th District Tournament at South Oldham next week.
