As a respiratory therapist at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, Jason Everson daily works with patients who have wrecked their lungs by smoking tobacco. However, until last year, Everson's own smoking addiction kept him hooked to a habit he knew could kill him.
"I was addicted," he said. "Even though I saw the effects of it everyday."
Everson said that with his wife and child both allergic to smoke, he was given added incentive to stop smoking.
After he broke the habit, Everson said he was eager to help others also become smoke free.
