A dusty loan paid off years ago resurfaced at the Simpsonville City Commission meeting on Tuesday.
In 1975, Leggett & Platt Corp. borrowed $1.1 million from the city, which acted as an intermediary with a bank at the company's request. Such practices were common so companies could get better deals, such as lower interest rates. The political subdivision in the middle had nothing at stake.
