The Shelby County boys' track team competed in the Eastern Relays meet at Eastern High School over the weekend.

SCHS head coach Jerry Lucas said his boys ran well, despite missing several runners due to the SCHS prom Saturday night.

"It was a tough meet with great competition," he said. "We had several that had prom (Saturday) so we had to shift some people around in some events, but we got to run in the majority of the races."

Stacey Eden had the team's best finish, placing seventh in the mile while running 4:29.15. Eden is also the topped ranked two-miler in the Louisville area, but switched to the mile on Saturday.

"He ran really well," Lucas said. "He's only the second runner I've had in five years to break the 4:30 mark in the mile, which he doesn't normally run because it's difficult for a young athlete to double in the mile and two-mile. He could be a competitive miler if he got more experience in it."

The 4x800 relay team finished fifth, again moving up against top competition.

Tyler Whitehouse had the only other top 10 finish for the Rockets, placing 10th in the 400 with a time of 52.82.

Overall, Lucas said he was pleased with the team's work, despite missing runners in several of their normal events.

"We had some young kids improve, so overall it was a good meet for us," he said. "It's just one more step toward the regional meet."
