Host Florence outlasted the Shelbyville all-star golf team in the PGA Junior League state regional tournament Saturday afternoon.

Florence captured 8.5 flags to Shelbyville’s 6.5 at World of Golf in Florence.

For Shelbyville, the twosome of Michael Long and Rylee Suttor led the way. The winners of the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the inaugural City Championship the previous Saturday teamed up to capture 2.5 flags.

Also for Shelbyville, Abby Ellis and Kendall Mills combined to take two flags while the tandems of Britton Libke and Charlie Hogg and Zach Houchin and Catie Kelly won one flag apiece.

“They played a talented team, and it was a very close match with one point going either way could have made for a tie,” Clear Creek Golf Center Coach Derrick Griffitts said. “All-in-all [it was a] great performance and everyone kept their heads up and played with tremendous sportsmanship.”
