Shelbyville man indicted for rape

A Shelbyville man has been indicted by a Shelby County Grand Jury on charges of second-degree rape.

Walter Lopez-Perez, 23, whose address is listed as the non-existent 1030 Henory Lane in Shelbyville, was arrested on Oct. 9, and the indictment came down Dec. 18.

The indictment document says that Lopez-Perez committed the offense on Aug. 18 in Shelby County. He is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old. Lopez-Perez’s jail report lists the rape as being “nonforced.” His relationship to the victim is not known.

The offense carries a penalty of 5 to 10 years in prison.
