Shelbyville amends 2008-09 budget for $500,000 difference

-A A +A
By Scotty McDaniel

When trying to follow budget estimates during the 2008-2009 fiscal year, the City of Shelbyville could feel the tough times of America.

On Thursday, the Shelbyville City Council approved the first reading of an amendment to that budget to show actual spending was about 20 percent higher ($500,000) than originally had been estimated, mostly because of overtime for the police and fire departments.

"The budget shows what you plan to spend," Mayor Tom Hardesty said. "By law we have to do a budget amendment if we go over in any category."
