NEW CASTLE -- Shelby County's 15-0 run through the second and third quarters carried them to a 50-35 victory against Owen County in the 8th Region semifinals.
The Rebels had led by two and three points several times until the final two minutes of the first half when Rocket Donovan Johnson got the run going by finishing a 3-point play.
Once the Rockets had a solid 31-18 lead early in the third quarter, they slowed their tempo and the Rebels began the fouling game. Shelby hit 13 of 19 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Darryl Hicks led the Rockets (23-5) with 12 points. Boomer Beckley and Donovan Johnson added 10 points each. Johnson also had 11 rebounds. Jordan Shelton led the Rebels (16-11) with 11 points.
Shelby County will play South Oldham in the championship game Tuesday at 7p.m. at Henry County High School. South Oldham defeated Gallatin County 65-63 when Casey Jackson hit two free throws with 0:04 seconds remaining.
The Rockets beat South Oldham 74-53 in the regular season.
