Joel League, founding minister at Living Waters Church in Clay Village, has a book he wrote in 2011 about his travels in Israel and that country’s relationship to the U.S. The book, called Deliverance from Another Place, is based on the Biblical principles about how Israel was created and should be viewed. League answered some questions from Sentinel-News reporter Spencer Jenkins
The Sentinel-News: What prompted you to write this book?
JOEL LEAGUE: Deliverance from Another Place is an urgent call to Christians to take a solid stand with Israel. Even though Israel is the only true, democratically-formed friend that the United States has in the Middle East, politically speaking, I write the book from a Biblical perspective. God told Abraham in Genesis 12: 3, "I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you." The Church, as well as the United States of America, needs to be blessed by God and not cursed. I relate a disturbing vision that I received in 1973, which revealed that, at some future point, America and England would betray the State of Israel, and at this time the Church of Jesus Christ is to come to her aid. The book is a "dragnet" to identify and organize Christians who feel this same way and are prepared to help Israel in prayer support or even traveling over to the land to minister.
S-N: How has the reception of the book been?
LEAGUE:The reception of the book (a few months old) has been encouraging. There seems to be a cross-section of people who have read it, and the reviews have been positive.
S-N: Where can readers purchase your book?
LEAGUE:The book can be ordered from Living Waters Church’s Web site, www.living-waters.org or from Amazon, Books a Million, Barnes & Nobles, and 23,000 book stores.
S-N: Is it self-published and if so, why did you decide to go that route?
LEAGUE: The book is Partnership Published (Xulon Press). This company gives the author control over his manuscript, is reasonably priced and does a marvelous job of guiding the author through the process. Also Xulon is "books on demand," which means that only those ordered are printed, which saves the author from amassing a great quantity of books to warehouse.
S-N: Can we expect any additional books from you?
LEAGUE:There may be a follow-up book on Deliverance from Another Place, but nothing planned in the near future.
S-N: How do you see our relationship with Israel now?
LEAGUE:Our world is in turmoil, and much of the stress centers on the little nation, which God says belongs to him. Let us pray that America never betrays Israel but that we stand with her. Mordecai told Esther that if she would not fulfill her destiny, then deliverance for Israel would come from another place – but she would miss out (Esther 4: 14). Let us not miss out on our opportunity.
