A Shelbyville man, Carlos Juan Sapon, 24, who was arrested in August on charges of incest, rape and sexual abuse, has pleaded guilty to some of those charges.

Shelby County Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Melanie Carroll said Commonwealth Attorney Laura Donnell has recommended no probation for Sapon.

She added that Sapon was to have gone to trial Monday on those charges, but he accepted a plea agreement instead at the last moment.

Donnell was not available for comment, but Carroll said she thought that she had recommended 23 years total on the charges.

“I do not have the file, and I don’t know how many of the charges he pled to, but I do know we have recommended he not be allowed probation,” she said.

The indictment said the incest spans from May 16, 2008, through July 2010. The victim’s relationship to Sapon was that of either a brother or sister, an ancestor or descendent, the indictment said.

The victim, referred to only as D.S. in the indictment, was less than 18 years old or was physically helpless or incapacitated. The four counts of first-degree rape span the same time frame, as do the sexual abuse charges.

Sapon is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m.
