Shelby County vs. Henry County glance

Here's a quick look at Monday's 8th Region Tournament first-round game between Shelby County and Henry County, which is slated to begin around 11 a.m. Monday at Collins.

The two teams have already met once this season. The Rockets beat the Wildcats 4-1 May 7 at the Shelby County Athletic Complex. Here's a recap of that game:

SCHS 4, Henry County 1

Sophomore Dillon Boone pitched a complete game and helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs as the Rockets beat the Wildcats (9-11) Monday night at the Shelby County Athletic Complex. Boone (3-1) gave up just the one earned run on six hits, while walking three and striking out six.

“Dillon pitched a great game,” SCHS Coach Bart "Rudy" Roettger said. “He was in complete command from the first inning. He did a great job of getting in a good tempo, pitching ahead in the count, and keeping the ball down. As a result, our defense played the best game we have played in a couple of weeks.”

Shelby scored a single run in the second and three in the fifth to bounce back from the loss to West Jessamine.

In the bottom of the second, Kody Noonan and Kyle Durbin led off with back-to-back singles before Noonan scored on two passed balls for the Rockets’ first run.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, Moore singled with one out, took second when Dugle reached on an error. Then, they moved up on a passed ball. Moore scored, and Dugle moved to third when Bruner reached on a fielder’s choice. Boone then doubled to left field to score Dugle and Bruner.

“Dillon had a great game at the plate, too. He has worked hard to improve his game, and I couldn’t be happier to see him step up versus some of his childhood friends,” Roettger said. “We didn’t hit the ball great, but what we did do is force the defense to make plays.

“Thankfully, with the way Dillon pitched and our defense played, that is all we needed.”
