Shelby County School Board: District to honor Teacher of the Year

Board meets Thursday at Cropper

Shelby County Public Schools will announce its 2013 Teacher of the Year during a reception Tuesday at Claudia Sanders Dinner House.

The ceremony will also honor the nominated teachers from each school in the district. They are:

Jennifer Gilbert, Clear Creek Elementary

Katrina Stapleton, Heritage Elementary

Kim Crick, Painted Stone Elementary

Katie Strange, Simpsonville Elementary

Jamie Mezin, Southside Elementary

Rachel Metzger, Wright Elementary

Tracy Miller, East Middle

Maria Russ, West Middle

Betty Anderson, Education Center at Cropper

Caitlyn Murphy, Collins High

Magali Terry, Shelby County High

The winner of the district award will represent Shelby County in the statewide WHAS/ExCEL Teacher of the Year Award.

Last year’s winner was Sloane Barnett of Simpsonville Elementary.

The Board of Education also will meet on Thursday at the Education Center at Cropper, where its members will hear a presentation from the school.

Also at the meeting, the board will:

Consider approval for continuation of the Math Achievement Grant program for 2013-14.

Consider approval for continuation of the Read To Achieve: Reading Diagnostic & Intervention Grant program for 2013-14.

Consider approval of the Summer Feeding Program for 2013.

Consider approval of request for shortened school day for two students with disabilities.

Consider approval of leave of absence requests.

Consider approval of an Eagle Scout project for Erik Spurlock.
