Shelby County College Athlete Update

Antonita Slaughter

This Shelbyville native and Christian Academy of Louisville graduate is a 6-foot-1 senior guard for the University of Louisville women’s basketball team.

Last 2 games:She scored 10 points in the third-ranked Cardinals’ 73-47 victory over LSU on Sunday in the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16 at the KFC Yum! Center. She was 4-for-12 from the field, including 2-of-9 from 3-point range, and had three assists and two rebounds in 29 minutes.

Then Slaughter scored 16 points in UofL’s 76-73 loss to Maryland in the NCAA Tournament’s Louisville Regional final Tuesday at the Yum! Center. She was 6-for-11 from the field, including 2 of 7 from 3-point range, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line, and also had five rebounds and one blocked shots in 32 minutes in her final college game.

Season-to-date:Slaughter averaged 8.7 points and 4 rebounds per game. She missed six games after a seizure-like episode early in the season, but returned to help UofL reach the Elite Eight for the second consecutive year. After the loss to Maryland she was asked what it meant to her to be able to finish the season on the court.

“It’s meant everything,” Slaughter said. “It’s just a blessing, first of all just for my health, and then just playing with these guys. You know they’re great teammates, but they’re great people off the court as well. Like we said in the locker room, we’re going to all keep in touch. These four years at Louisville have meant a lot.”

Next up:The Cards finished their season 33-5.  

 

Stacey Eden

This Shelby County graduate is a senior on the University of Louisville men’s track & field team.

Last meet:He finished 17th in the 1,500-meter run, in 4 minutes, 11.07 seconds, in UofL first outdoor home meet – the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational last Saturday at Cardinal Park.  

Next up:The Cardinals will next compete in the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.  

 

Caterina Karas

This Collins graduate is a sophomore on the Xavier University women’s track & field team.

Last meet:She finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (in 12:03.75) in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational last weekend at the University of Cincinnati.  

Next up:The Musketeers will compete in the Miami (Ohio) Invitational beginning Friday in Oxford, Ohio.  

 

Hannah Stucker

This Shelby County graduate is a senior infielder on the Spalding University softball team.  

Last game:She went 1-for-2 with two runs scored while starting at second base in the Golden Eagles’ 13-2 loss to Franklin (Ind.) College in the second game of a doubleheader (she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game, a 15-1 Spalding triumph) Tuesday at Jeffersontown High School.   

Season-to-date:Stucker is hitting .439 with seven doubles, two home runs, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored through Spalding’s first 17 games.

Next up:The Golden Eagles (10-11) play a doubleheader at Westminster College today and a doubleheader at Principia College on Saturday.   

 

Becca Mouser

This Collins graduate is a sophomore outfielder/infielder on the Spalding University softball team.  

Last game:She went 0-for-1 with one run scored while starting at third base for the Golden Eagles in their 13-2 loss to Franklin (Ind.) College in the second game of a doubleheader (she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game, a 15-1 Spalding triumph) Tuesday at Jeffersontown High School.    

Season-to-date:Mouser is hitting .344 with six doubles, a team-high four triples, 20 RBIs and 12 runs scored through Spalding’s first 20 games.

Next up:The Golden Eagles (10-11) play a doubleheader at Westminster College today and a doubleheader at Principia College on Saturday.

 

Dee Dee Davis

This Shelby County graduate is a senior infielder on the Northern Kentucky University softball team.  

Last game:She went 0-for-3 while starting at second base in an 8-0 loss to Miami (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio on Wednesday.   

Season-to-date:Davis is hitting a team-best .284 with four doubles, one triple, a team-high five home runs and a team-best tying 17 RBIs for NKU. She also has a .523 slugging percentage, a .337 on-base percentage and a .952 fielding percentage in 30 games (she’s started every one).

Next up:The Norse (3-27) will host Stetson for a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader. NKU then hosts Marshall in a doubleheader Tuesday.   

 

Chris Cervantes

This Collins graduate is a sophomore right-handed pitcher on the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team.  

Last outing:He went one inning, giving up two earned runs on three hits while walking one, in the Colonels’ 13-11 loss to Northern Kentucky on March 19 in Richmond.  

Season-to-date:Cervantes has a 9.53 earned-run average in six appearances. In 5.2 innings pitched he has given up six earned runs on eight hits while walking seven and striking out three.

Next up:Eastern Kentucky hosts Morehead State in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series beginning today. The Colonels then play at Marshall on Tuesday and at Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.   

 

Eric Standafer

This Shelby County graduate is a senior first baseman and designated hitter for the St. Catharine College baseball team.   

Last outing:He went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Patriots’ 16-2 victory over Asbury College on Tuesday.   

Season-to-date:Standafer is hitting .300 with two doubles and three RBIs in 20 games (he’s started 12) for the Patriots (18-14).  

Next up:St. Catharine plays a three-game series at Georgetown College beginning at 6 p.m. today before playing at Berea on Tuesday.   

 

Taylor Shaw

This Shelby County graduate is a senior utility player on the Georgetown College softball team.  

Last game:She went 0-for-1 with an RBI in the Tigers’ 9-1 Mid-South Conference victory over St. Catharine on Tuesday.    

Season-to-date:Shaw is hitting .288 with four doubles, one triple and a team-high 13 RBIs for Georgetown. 

Next up:The Tigers (17-9, 12-6) host Campbellsville University in a doubleheader Saturday before playing a doubleheader at Midway College on Tuesday.    

 

Brittany Kendall

This Shelby County graduate is a sophomore utility player on the Midway College softball team.  

Last game:She went 2-for-3 in the Tigers’ 9-1 loss to Union on Tuesday.    

Season-to-date:Kendall is hitting .365 with three doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored to go along with a .400 on-base percentage in playing in 18 games (and starting 17) for Midway.  

Next up:The Eagles (5-19) play at Alice Lloyd College today and tomorrow before hosting Georgetown College in a doubleheader Tuesday.
