The Shelby Sharks swim team sent 19 individuals to the 13-and-over United States Swimming Kentucky State Championship this past weekend in Lexington.
Competing at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center, the Sharks came out firing, posting best times in 32 events.
Amanda Skinner, Addison Barlow and Collin Kessinger all qualified for finals.
“We had a great weekend and it was nice to see the individuals that are learning the value of hard work and dedication do well,” Sharks Coach Jeremiah Heath said.
Skinner continued to improve and set personal-best times in the 400 IM and the 200 breaststroke, placing ninth overall in each event and again qualifying for the Sectional Championships.
Barlow posed personal best times in the 100 and 200 fly, placing 11th overall in the latter. She also placed seventh in the 50 free.
Kessinger had a big meet placing eighth in the 200 breast and ninth in the 400 IM, and also dropping time in the 100 breast, 500 free and 100 back.
Those three swam with Lindsey Anderson at the 2009 Sectional Meet earlier this month, and Anderson also answered the bell at state. She dropped time in the 100 back and the 100 fly.
Anderson, Skinner, Haley Miller and Emily Walsh joined together to swim the women’s open 400 medley and finished seventh, earning a Section Championship qualifying time.
The top male performer at the state meet was C.J. Skinner, who posted best times in seven of his eight events.
The Sharks will also send eight swimmers to this weekend’s 12-and-under State Meet at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center in Louisville.
After the 12-and-under meet, the team will have a short break before launching into the summer season, when it will travel to meets in Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana and Florida.
