Radio: WXLN-FM (9.33)

Records: Eastern 2-3; Shelby County 4-1

Last week: Eastern won at Bullitt East, 27-25; Shelby County won at Nelson County, 20-16.

Coaches: Eastern, Ken Whalen (30-30, 6th year at school); SCHS, Todd Shipley (48-57, 10th year at school).

When Eastern has the ball:

The Eagles seem to have an offense in flux. Eastern has recently switched quarterbacks and No. 11 J. Tanner played his first full game of the season last week in the win at Bullitt East. In 3 games Tanner is 14-of-28 with 3 TDs and O INTs. No. 7 J. Kenn was the starter but has had 6 INTs this season. WR No. 3 J. Davis is the team’s stud with offers from UK and U of L, but he could miss this weeks game with groin injury. He didn’t play last week, but still has 15 catches for 153 yds and 2 TDs. WRs J. Hayden (No. 4) and J. Sanders (No. 5) are also big targets, and both have more than 150 yds receiving this year. The key to Eastern’s offense, however, is RB C. Parks (No. 36). Parks has 303 yds (4.3/carry) this season and 6 TDs.

When SCHS has the ball:

Like all Lousiville schools, Eastern is blessed with a ton of speed and athleticsm on both sides of the ball. The key to topping the Eagles this season has been jumping on them early and forcing Eastern to play from behind. The Rockets have had several games where they started slow, but will need to get out of the gates quickly tonight. “I’d like to think we can exploit them with our passing game,” SCHS Coach Todd Shipley said. “The way they defend, they put six or seven in the box to stop the run first.” If the Rockets can get into the air to start, they should be able to score in a hurry. After last week’s mud bowl at Nelson, the passing game will be looking to get back on track.

Notes: Eastern is 5-3 vs. SCHS since 2001 but is just 1-2 at Shelby Co....The Eagles are next to last in Class 6A in points allowed, having given up 176 this season (35.2/game). Marshall Co. is last at 250 points (41.7/game)....In the Eagles victory over Oldham Co., No. 30, LB H. Borroff blocked two punts....SCHS QB B. Cresap was just 6-of-14 in the mud last week. It was the first time the Rockets had thrown just 14 passes since the final 3 games last season, when Cresap was injured....The SCHS defense has come up with big plays at the end of both of the Rockets’ close victories. N. Beach has led the way with QB pressure and sacks late in games....The Rockets are one of 12 Class 6A teams with one loss or less.
