Beats host Shelby in 2 games

The Scott County 9-year-old Cal Ripken all-star baseball team beat host Shelby County in two games Monday night to capture the District 2 Tournament.


Scott beat Shelby 14-10 in the first game, then 6-4 in the second game at Clear Creek Park. Both teams advance to the State Tournament, which will begin the week of July 21 at Mount Sterling.


Scott County 14, Shelby County 10

Shelby led 7-1 after the first inning, 9-3 after the second and 10-4 after the third, but couldn’t hold off Scott County’s comeback.

Malik Stoner, starting pitcher Michael Long, Bryson Ethington, Logan Parker and Bradley Williams all had key hits in Shelby County’s 7-run bottom of the first.  

Stoner led Shelby at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs. Meanwhile, Elijah League, Ethington and Parker added two hits apiece for Shelby County.

Scott County took the momentum from the first game and carried it into the second game, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning on its way to victory.

Bradley Ruble and Bladin Malone led Shelby County with two hits apiece.
