SCHS volleyball team wins 4th in a row, 12th of past 13

The Shelby County volleyball team closed out its regular season by sweeping visiting Owen County last Thursday night at Mike Casey Gymnasium.

The Rockets bettered the Rebels, 27-25, 25-13, on their Senior Night for their fourth consecutive victory and their 12th in their past 13 matches.

“On Senior Night the girls celebrated their victory with senior players Blair Bors, Tiara Broce, Ariana Jones and Shelby Tooke,” Shelby County Coach Felicia Pace said. “The girls played really well despite having a change in line-up with setter Leslie Sloan out with injury. Bors stepped up to set a nice match.”

Bors finished with 23 assists, and Jones and Tooke each tallied six kills while juniors Dasia Jones and Kyndle Pace added four apiece.

“The girls will now focus their attention to preparing for district play,” Pace said.

The Rockets (16-6) will be seeded No. 1 in the 30th District Tournament, which begins next Monday at Anderson County.

COLLINS GOES 1-1:The Titans closed out district play with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of Spencer County last Tuesday night but fell, 3-1, two nights later at Woodford County.

The Titans, who hosted Oldham County on Tuesday night, host Thomas Nelson at 7 p.m. today in their final home match and will close out their regular season at 7:30 Thursday night at Carroll County.


GIRLS’ SOCCER: CHS blanks Model; SCHS falls

Shelby Vogel’s three goals and two assists led Collins to its sixth consecutive victory, 8-0, over Model on Monday night. Junior forward Brittany Whitehead added a goal and two assists, and Marsya Maier, Haley Catlett and Jenna Miracle had one goal and one assist apiece. Lindsey Ketcham also contributed a goal.

Collins (15-2-1), which hosted Fern Creek on Tuesday night, hosts Bullitt Central at 7:30 tonight in its regular-season finale.

ANDERSON 4, SCHS 2:Anderson won in a shootout Friday at the Shelby County Athletic Complex.  The Rockets (10-7-1, 0-3) will be seeded No. 4 in next week’s 30th District Tournament at Collins and will face a rematch with those top-seeded Bearcats.

Shelby County hosts Moore at 6 p.m. Thursday in its regular-season finale.


BOYS’ SOCCER: Collins 2, North Oldham 1

Senior forward Zack Miller’s two goals propelled the then-sixth-ranked Titans to a 2-1 victory over North Oldham on Saturday in Goshen. 

Seniors Walker Andriot and Austin Huff assisted Miller’s goals, which gave him a team-high 12 on the season. The Titans (13-1-1) won their fourth consecutive match.

Collins hosted No. 5 Western Hills on Tuesday night and will close out its regular season against 18th-ranked Kentucky Country Day at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Titans Stadium.
