SCHS volleyball team downs Western Hills

The Shelby County volleyball team rallied back Tuesday night after losing the first set to beat visiting Western Hills, 13-25, 30-28, 25-13, in Mike Casey Gymnasium.

“The girls had a rocky start to the match but finally pulled the play together,” Rockets Coach Felicia Pace said. “I was glad to see the offense from Dasia Jones, who led the team with six kills, and the girls improved their service errors.”

Shelby County (3-0), which played at crosstown-rival Collins on Thursday night, next plays at Anderson County on Sept. 10 in a 30th District match.

WOODFORD COUNTY 3, COLLINS 2:The visiting Yellow Jackets outlasted the Titans on Tuesday night, 23-25, 28-26, 25-18, 21-25, 15-5.

Junior MiChaela Stoudemire led Collins’ offense with 11 kills, and junior Sierra Shepherd added six. Junior Koti Weaver led the Titans on defense with 14 digs and also had five aces. Stoudemire added eight digs. Keri Perdue dished out 10 assists.

Collins (2-3), which hosted crosstown-rival Shelby County on Thursday night, plays at Anderson County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in a 30th District match.



The Titans hammered host Holy Cross, 9-1, Tuesday in Louisville before blanking Henry County, 3-0, Wednesday in Shelbyville.

Senior midfielder Lindsey Ketcham’s four goals led Collins over the Cougars. In addition to Ketcham’s hat trick-plus-one, senior Brittany Whitehead and junior Addie Smith tallied two goals apiece. Senior Emily Hinkle, the team’s goalie, netted the Titans’ other goal.

Senior Haley Catlett dished out three assists and Smith and sophomore Ashley Preher one apiece.

Collins (3-1) next hosts Thomas Nelson at 6 p.m. Wednesday.


BOYS’ GOLF:SCHS, Collins win

Shelby County slipped by visiting Sayre, 168-169, Tuesday afternoon at Weissinger Hills Golf Course. The Rockets were led by junior Tanner Brandenburg, who carded 1-over 37. Also for Shelby County, Dakota Baatz shot 38, senior Isaac Martin 42 and senior Jimmy Hulce 51.

COLLINS 147, FRANKLIN COUNTY 148:The Titans edged the host Flyers on Monday in a Central Kentucky Conference match at Juniper Hill Golf Course. Senior Michael Atkins earned medalist honors, carding 35. His teammates and classmates were close behind him. Brandon Sanner shot 36, Michael Troutman and Matthew Feltner 38 and Chandler White 40 as Collins, which defeated Sayre, 155-161, last Thursday, improved to 3-2 in dual matches.

The Titans, who hosted Scott County in a CKC match Thursday, will play in the Eagle Trace Invitational on Saturday. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead.


GIRLS’ GOLF: Collins 3rd in trimatch

The Titans finished third in a 3-way meet hosted by South Oldham on Tuesday afternoon at Oldham County Country Club. The host Dragons carded a collective 226, and Butler posted 235, one stroke better than Collins

Sophomore Sydney Rogers led Collins with 52.
