SCHS cheerleaders finish 15th

The Shelby County cheerleading squad finished 15thin the all-girls medium division last Saturday at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Competitive Cheer Championships, which were held at Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Mercy Academy won the 16-team competition with 278.4 points.

The Rockets tallied 241.6 points, finishing just two-tenths of a point behind Calloway County.

 

Holiday tournaments

The Collins and Shelby County boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be in action during the holiday break:

  • The Shelby County boys’ basketball team began play in Oldham County’s Best in Hoops Tournament on Thursday, then will play in the Lloyd Memorial Invitational Tournament next Thursday through Saturday in Erlanger. In the 8-team Best in Hoops tourney the Rockets met Boyd County on Thursday. They’ll meet Iroquois at 5:45 p.m. this afternoon, then will play Manual at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at East Oldham Middle School. They’ll return to OCHS to play at either 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. later Saturday. In the 14-team tourney at Lloyd, which also includes Collins, the Rockets open against Lloyd at 8 p.m. Thursday.
  • The Collins girls’ basketball team will play in the Waggener Holiday Classic today and Saturday in St. Matthews. The Titans play Valley at 5 p.m. today. If they win, they’ll play at noon Saturday. If they lose their first game they’ll play at 9 a.m. Saturday. They’ll play at least one other game after that in the 8-team tourney, which also includes Doss, Fern Creek, Fairdale, Kentucky Country Day, Southern and the host Wildcats.
  • The Collins boys’ basketball team will play in the Rowan County Invitational tonight through Monday. Then the Titans will play in the Lloyd Memorial Invitational Tournament next Thursday through Dec. 28 in Erlanger. In the 12-team round robin at Rowan County, the Titans play East Ridge at 9:30 tonight before playing Pulaski County at 1:45 p.m. Saturday and George Rogers Clark at 7 p.m. Saturday. In the 14-team tourney at Lloyd, which also includes Shelby County, the Titans open against Covington Holy Cross at 5 p.m. Thursday.
  • The Shelby County girls’ basketball team will play in Conner’s 3rd annual Lady Cougar Classic next Thursday through Saturday. The Rockets meet Bishop Brossart at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Then Friday they meet host Conner at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Belfry at 7 that night. They’ll play one game Saturday.
