The Shelby County boys' and girls' basketball teams received polar opposite draws for their 8th Region Tournaments.

The Lady Rockets will no doubt have to earn their third straight 8th Region championship. The Lady Rockets will open play against South Oldham in the final first-round game on March 4 at 7:45 p.m. at Shelby County High School. South Oldham was upset by Oldham County in the 29th District finals. Lauren Jones, a possible region player of the year, leads the Lady Dragons.

If the girls advance they would likely see Simon Kenton (23-8), the team with the best record in the region. And the finals, on March 8 at 7 p.m., could have a distinct 30th District flare, with Anderson County -- the 30th District runner-up to Shelby County -- a favorite to win the top half of the bracket.

The Rockets, on the other hand, had a very favorable draw. The boys will face Owen County (18-9) in the first round on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. If the Rockets win their opener, they'll face the winner of the Simon Kenton/South Oldham game on March 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Like the girls, Anderson looks to be the favorite in the other half of the bracket, but Gallatin County (22-7) will pose a tough first round test, and North Oldham (19-8) will likely await in the second round. The finals will be March 11 at 7 p.m. at Henry County High School.
