When the Rockets collided Monday night, there was only one team left standing.
Playing In the Capital City Invitational at the at Frankfort Convention Center, the Shelby County Rockets flew around the court, hit the boards hard and played tough defense to take down the Rockcastle County Rockets, 55-33.
Shelby Head Coach Michael Clark said he was proud of the team's defense and their ability to control the tempo of the game. He was also glad to see the team attacking the boards -- something he has been stressing all season.
Donovan Johnson led the charge with a game-high 14 points while providing lock-down defense. Eighth-grade sensation Darryl Hicks came off the bench to offer 13 points. Clark said Hicks is mature beyond his years mentally as well as athletically.
"Last night he played outstanding basketball," he said of Hicks. "He gave that spark off the bench that the team needed."
The Rockets played Pulaski Southwestern Tuesday night for fifth place in the tournament, and they'll start a home tournament on Saturday, facing Frankfort at 8 p.m.
