Senior Brandon Sanner has been the steadiest player for the Collins boys’ golf team so far this season.

So it was only fitting that Sanner led the Titans to a dual match victory over crosstown-rival Shelby County on Tuesday afternoon with a round he dubbed, “consistent.” His even-par 36 on the back nine at Weissinger Hills Golf Course helped Collins down the Rockets, 152-165.

“For the most part he’s been pretty steady,” Titans Coach Daniel Iceman said of Sanner. “We rely on him for consistency, which at this level is what you need.”

In addition to Sanner’s round Collins also received three more sub-40 scores. Senior Michael Atkins added 38, after missing an eagle putt on No. 18, and fellow seniors Michael Troutman and Matthew Feltner carded 39s.

Junior Tanner Brandenburg paced Shelby County with 37. The Rockets’team score was rounded out by senior Isaac Martin’s 40, junior Dakota Baatz’s 42 and senior Jimmy Hulce’s 46.

The Titans previously beat Shelby, 159-179, on Aug. 15 in a Central Kentucky Bluegrass Conference match at Shelbyville Country Club.

“I’m a little upset with the way they reacted to bad shots they hit, but overall if you look at the score we shot the last time against them we bounced back,” Rockets Coach Matt Redmon said of his team. “I’m happy, not as happy as I could be, but I’m happy that they rebounded the way they have. I think we can do better [though].”

“We’ve got to get our one, two and three [players] all playing well all at the same time. If the top three shoot like they can, and the four or five [player] can shoot in the mid-forties, we can beat anybody in the conference.”

Sanner’s round didn’t start out with a bang, but a bogey, after he hit behind a tree on No. 10. However he bounced back two holes later when he chipped in for birdie on No. 12.

Sanner bogeyed 13, but closed out his round with a birdie on 18 after missing a 10-foot eagle putt.

“Probably could’ve been better, I was hitting the driver pretty well,” Sanner said of his round.

The Titans and Rockets will both compete in the PRP Invitational, which begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Sun Valley Golf Course in Valley Station.
