Shelbyville’s Brandon Sanner and Simpsonville’s Sarah Son won their respective divisions in the KYPGA Junior Tournament of Champions, which concluded Wednesday.
Sanner rallied from a 2-shot deficit for a 4-shot victory in the boys’ open division while Son went wire-to-wire in posting a 4-shot triumph in the girls’ 16- to 18-year-old division.
Sanner, a recent Collins High School graduate, shot a final-round 3-over-par 75 – to follow up his first-round 78 - at Henry County Country Club for a two-day total of 9-over 153. That was four shots better than first-round leader Corey Damron of Georgetown and five ahead of Sanner’s former Titans teammate Matthew Feltner, who tied for third with a 158 (79-79).
Sanner, who will soon begin his college career at Spalding University, carded a 36-39 in his final round, which included four birdies, 10 pars, two bogeys, one double-bogey and one triple-bogey.
Meanwhile Son followed up her first-round 74 with the same score in her second round to finish with a two-day total of 8-over 148. The Christian Academy of Louisville rising senior’s final round included one birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys.
