Russells help SCHS boys rout North Bullitt in tennis

The Shelby County boys’ tennis team downed North Bullitt, 4-1, in Shepherdsville on Wednesday. The Rockets won two singles matches and both doubles matches.

At No. 1 singles junior Ethan Russell was victorious, 8-3, while senior Zach Brown triumphed, 8-2, at No. 3 singles.

Junior Doug Martin and freshman Jeron Russell won, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Luke Dove and senior Stuart Orange were victorious, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.

Shelby County (4-1) played at Franklin County on Thursday.

OLDHAM COUNTY 3, COLLINS 2: The Colonels edged the Titans on Wednesday in Buckner. Collins’ victories came from seventh-grader Jared Baltzell, who won, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, and at No. 1 doubles, where senior Wil Johnson and sophomore Cy Dutton combined for a 6-3, 6-2 triumph.

The Titans hosted Bullitt East on Thursday.

 

SOFTBALL: Lex. Catholic 8, SCHS 0

Visiting Lexington Catholic shutout Shelby County on Wednesday at the Shelby County Athletic Complex. The game was scoreless through four innings before the Knights (6-1) plated four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Rockets (1-3) finished with three hits, two by senior Keaton Jesse.

Shelby County, which hosted Franklin County on Thursday night, plays Cooper at 7:30 tonight at Bath County in the Lady Cat Invitational.

 

GIRLS’ TENNIS: Oldham 4, Collins 1

The Titans’ lone victory came at No. 1 singles, where junior Paige Kregor was victorious 6-0, 6-0, Wednesday at Buckner.

Collins hosted Bullitt East on Thursday.

 

GIRLS’ LACROSSE: CAL 11, Collins 1

Christian Academy of Louisville handed the Titans their third loss of the young season, beating them 11-1, Tuesday. That followed defeats to Manual (16-2) and Male (11-2) last Friday.

Seniors Marysa Maier and Emily Thompson scored the Titans’ goals in their loss to the Crimsons, and senior goal keeper Lauren Greenwell recorded 11 saves. Maier also accounted for both of Collins’ goals in their loss to the Bulldogs.

Junior Katie Herick scored the Titans’ lone goal in their loss to the Centurions.

Collins’ next scheduled game is April 11 against Louisville Eastern.
