The SCHS football team put on an offensive show Friday. After scoring a total of 99 points in three games to start the season, the Rockets (3-1) exploded for 63 points in a 48-point win, 63-15, over the Chargers (2-3) at Robert Doyle Stadium. The Chargers got on the board first, getting a 37-yard TD off a busted play and then converting two-point conversion after a bad snap. From there it was all Shelby County. Junior Quarterback Branden Cresap threw five TD passes and Edwin Thomas added a touchdown run as the Rockets’ scored 42 unanswered points. The Chargers added a 44-yard TD run with 3:40 to go in the third, but Cresap came right back and answered with a 68-yard pass to Ben Axline just 1:17 later. “Tonight [Friday] was great for us,” Cresap said. “The offense hadn’t reached our potential yet this year, and I put that on myself. But tonight, we broke the ice.” Cresap ended the game 12-17 with six TDs and 261 yards, but he did throw his first interception of the year. The quarterback also put the win on the defense. “They got so many turnovers and gave us a short field all night,” he said “We love starting drives on the 20, and getting the ball in the red zone.” The Chargers fumbled the ball 10 times and lost it six times with five of those ending up as Rocket TDs.
