The SCHS boys' soccer team used a 4-1 victory over Christian Academy Louisville on Monday to advance to tonight's 8th Region championship game at Oldham County High School.

"These guys really wanted it tonight," SCHS Coach B.J. Andriot said. "It was unbelievable - their intensity was amazing."

SCHS will play host Oldham County at 7 o'clock.

The Rockets (9-6-4) scored first, when Taylor Shaver jumped on a deflection of Carlos Carias' shot just about seven minutes into the game, and CAL (14-5) answered with about 9 minutes left in the first half, when J.D. Hawkins scored off a deflected shot.

But that was all the Centurions would manage. The Rockets' defense seemed to have an answer every time CAL mounted an attack.

"CAL is a good team, and they sent a lot of guys on the attack," Andriot said. "I thought we did a good job of getting back, and staying with them."

With the score tied at 1 at halftime, the Rockets took the lead for good about five minutes into the second half, when Brandon Shuck received a cross from Shaver, took one touch past a defender for an open look and buried his.

"We had great ball movement, and the guys were patient most of the night," Andriot said. "We rushed things a few times, but for the most part I thought we controlled the tempo and ourselves."

CAL nearly tied the score just minutes after Shuck's goal, but Delbert Perkins stepped in on a pass to the far post on the right and likely saved a goal.

The Rockets got a little insurance with 16 minutes to go, when Bradley Shuck headed a ball back into the middle off a corner, and Shaver was there to tap it in past CAL's keeper for his second goal of the night.

Andriot applauded Shaver's work and said he was glad to see the senior net two goals.

"He just does a great job of holding the ball in the middle," the coach said. "It's great to see him get the reward of two goals."

SCHS junior keeper David Breen made a big save to hold the Rockets' lead with just less than 13 minutes left in the game. A CAL forward got a clean look from about 12 yards out, but Breen quickly punched the shot over the net.

A questionable offsides call negated a goal by Bradley Shuck on a pass from Nery Arreaga's free kick, but John Lisby got the Rockets' fourth goal with just 48 seconds to play. Lisby, deep on the backside on a corner kick, took Matt Nakatani's serve and found the back of the net.
