SCHS Coach B.J. Andriot wasn't happy with his team's play against Oldham County in the 16th District title game last week, a 2-0 loss. But Andriot knows his team will be better when it meets host Oldham County at 7 p.m. today in the 8th Region Tournament championship.
"The deal this time is lose, and you go home," he said. "I know these guys don't want to go home, so they'll be ready. This team, when they play with the intensity they had [Monday] against CAL, can hang with anybody."
The key for the Rockets (9-6-4) will be slowing down the Colonels' (18-4-1) scoring duo of Shawn Parker and Jacob Kemper. Parker scored Oldham's first goal in the beating Shelby last week, and Kemper scored all four of Oldham's goals in the 4-0 victory over Eastern in Monday's other semifinal.
"The main thing we have to do is defend," Andriot said. "We have to stop Parker and Kemper. We know we can score, but defending those two will be the key for us."
The Rockets lost, 3-1, to Oldham at home on Sept. 9 during the regular season before losing that district final, but Andriot is more confident this time.
"I thought the first time we played them we were very lethargic, and last time we just didn't play well at all," he said. "We're playing very well right now, and I know we'll be ready [Wednesday]. It's hard to beat a good team three times, so hopefully that will work in our favor."
Though defense will be the key for the Rockets, Andriot said his team cannot get complacent.
"We can't just stay back and defend," he said. "We have to go at them and play aggressive, but after we make those runs, we have to get back on defense. We're going to need to play hard all night."
