Shelby County knocked Franklin County for a loop Wednesday night, as the Rockets zoomed past the Flyers, 11-1, in six innings.
The Rockets stopped the Flyers' offense on the launching pad, holding them to only four hits, with their only run coming in the first inning.
After the 10th-ranked Flyers (16-2) tied the score at 1, the Rockets blasted off, putting up one run in the second inning off an error and exploding for five runs off one hit and three errors in the fourth inning.
They scored three more runs in the fifth and then sealed the mercy-rule victory on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Shelby County pitcher Scott Clemmons clipped the Flyers' wings, allowing just one run on four hits in six innings, walking two batters and striking out four.
Jared Clarkson kept the Rockets (13-8) on course at the plate, with a pair of singles and two walks, and James Wright came in 2-for-4 with two singles.
Franklin County used five pitchers who gave up 10 walks in the game.
Morgan Sutherland allowed two runs on three hits; Jordan Cumpston gave up five runs on three hits; Ryan Ward didn't pitch an entire inning; Eli Howard gave up three runs on three hits and Jon Sturgill finished the game with one run.
Shelby County hosts Lloyd Memorial and Edmondson County in a double-header Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
