The Shelby County volleyball team outlasted host Bullitt Central, 2-1 (25-13, 17-25, 25-20), Tuesday night in Shepherdsville.
“The girls played well,” Rockets Coach Felicia Pace said.
Shelby County raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first set behind the serving of Rachel Timperman. Then in the third set the Rockets closed out the match with four consecutive aces from Kendall Souder.
“Although serving began and ended with aces, we still missed twelve on the night, a number too high for my liking,” Pace said.
Leading the way for Shelby County were Timperman (seven aces), senior Dasia Jones (five kills, eight digs) and sophomore Abby Wills (four kills, seven digs).
The Rockets (4-2), who had their Volley for the Cure match Thursday night against Franklin County, hosts crosstown-rival Collins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
TRIMBLE COUNTY 3, COLLINS 1:The visiting Raiders (9-9) topped the Titans (6-5), 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 27-25, in an 8thRegion match Wednesday night.
“Another hard-fought match, [we] just came up a little short,” first-year Collins Coach Cary Clark said.
Juniors MiChaela Stoudemire and Macayla Martin led the Titans’ offensive attack with seven kills apiece. Stoudemire also recorded three solo blocks on defense, and Koti Weaver led the way with eight digs. Keri Perdue dished out 19 assists.
Collins, which played at Pleasure Ridge Park on Thursday night, host Waggener at 6:30 p.m. Monday before playing at Shelby County at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
BOYS’ SOCCER: Shelby wins 2
The Rockets blanked host Spencer County, 4-0, in a 30th District match on Tuesday night before blasting visiting Henry County, 11-1, Wednesday night.
Against the Bears (0-4-1, 0-2), junior Julio Morales scored two goals, and junior Dillon Valenzuela and sophomore Cole Meredith added one each for the Rockets, who ended a 5-match winless streak.
Against the Wildcats (1-7-1), a host of players scored for Shelby.
The Rockets (3-7-1, 1-1), who played at Thomas Nelson on Thursday night, play at Anderson County at 7 p.m. Tuesday in their final district match of the regular-season.
GIRLS’ GOLF: Collins 203, Nelson 222
Mary Borders’ 42 led the Titans Wednesday afternoon at Shelbyville Country Club. Sophomore Claire Watts shot 48, and senior Jasmine Valentine and freshman Mallori Webb each added 55.
Collins will play in Grant County’s Tom Johnson Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Eagle Creek Country Club in Dry Ridge. The Titans host Shelby County at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Shelbyville Country Club before playing at Nelson County on Tuesday.
