Jacolby Barnes held the microphone for Shay Williams as they participated in a read-aloud lesson in Tracy Gayle’s class at Wright Elementary. The fifth-grade class was divided into groups and assigned various parts of a play about Sybil Ludington. The 16-year-old was the female counterpart to Paul Revere as the children learned she rode a horse 40 miles through Putnam and Dutchess Counties to warn the militia that British troops were burning Danbury, Conn.
