A Florida man is lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center after being arrested in Jacksonville and transported back to Shelby County.
Robert K. Brigham (alias Robert K. Bingham) 49, of 3090 SW 89th St. in Ocala, Fla., is charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. The charges stem from May 11, when Brigham cashed a check that was stolen in Jeffersontown, Ky., said a Shelby County Police report.
Shelbyville Police Chief Robert Schutte said Brigham changed the amount on the check and the name of the payee. The check was originally made out for $350, to be paid to Budget Print & Co., and Brigham is alleged to have changed the amount to $6,989 and removed the company’s name and substituted his own as the payee.
The check was cashed at Republic Bank on Midland Trail, the police report said.
Shelbyville Police detective Stacy Bruce applied for and received a warrant from the Shelby District Court for Brigham’s arrest. Schutte added that Brigham was located in Florida through NCIC, The National Crime Information Center, which is the United States' central database for tracking crime-related information.
After being located in Jacksonville, Fla., Brigham was transported to the Shelby County Detention Center, where he is awaiting indictment.
He is being held under a $5,050 bond.
