A Shelbyville man wanted in connection with bank robberies in Kentucky and Indiana was arrested Thursday, police said.
Jason E. Abell, 34, of 403 Sycamore Terrace, is charged with second-degree robbery in connection with bank robberies in Florence and Jeffersonville, Ind.
Abell was arrested without incident at his residence at 9:39 p.m. by Shelbyville Police Det. Jesse Paulley, along with detectives from Jeffersonville, who were also at the scene.
Shelbyville Police Chief Danny Goodwin said he was proud of everyone that worked to bring in Abell.
“Our officers all worked together on this,” he said.
He said he expects that if Abell has not been extradited to either Florence or Jeffersonville, he soon would be.
Goodwin said he has no idea how long Abell has been living in Shelbyville but that he is not wanted in connection with any crimes in Shelby County.
“All of his alleged crimes occurred away from here,” he said. “Because he was living here, I think that was because of not trying to draw attention to where he lived, but I really am not sure of how long he had been living here. All we did was serve the out-of-town warrants for the bank robberies because they happened in other jurisdictions.”
Goodwin said more charges could be forthcoming.
“I’m not so sure that there won’t be a bunch more put on him,” he said.
