The halls were alive with voices at East Middle as the sixth-grade chorus rehearsed for an upcoming competition. Under the direction of teacher Nancy Cheak, the group of about 35 students stood on risers and raised their voices in a two-part chorus and piano piece called "Oleana." It was written "for my Norwegian uncle Edwin V. Julseth" by Jeanne Julseth-Heinrich. A description of the music explains: "Can you imagine founding you own city and naming it after yourself?
