North Oldham boys spoil Collins soccer senior night

The 14th-ranked North Oldham boys’ soccer team spoiled Collins’ Senior Night, blanking the third-ranked Titans, 1-0, Tuesday.


A penalty kick in the 57th minute gave the Mustangs (15-3-1) the victory.

Collins (11-3-2) closed out its regular season Thursday night at Kentucky Country Day.

SHELBY COUNTY 6, BULLITT EAST 0:The Rockets (6-11-1) won for the third time in four matches, defeating the host Chargers (8-7-1) Tuesday night in Mount Washington.

Senior Juan Mancilla and sophomore Cole Meredith tallied two goals apiece while sophomore Jeron Russell added the other. Shelby also tallied on an own goal by Bullitt East.

The Rockets (6-11-1) closed out their regular season Thursday night against Fairdale.


VOLLEYBALL: CHS falls twice; SCHS sweeps

Visiting Anderson County outlasted the Titans, 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 15-25, 16-14), Tuesday night in a 30th District match in Shelbyville, then host Oldham County topped them, 3-0 (25-7, 25-8, 25-15), Wednesday night.

The Titans (12-8, 4-1) were a half-game behind the Bearcats (19-14, 5-1) in the district standings heading into Thursday night’s match against Spencer County. If Collins beat the Bears, it would be seeded No. 1 in the district tournament later this month.

Against Anderson County, the Titans were led by junior MiChaela Stoudemire (15 kills, 2 solo blocks), sophomore Lindsey Fow (10 kills), junior Keri Perdue (44 assists, 15 digs) and junior Koti Weaver (14 digs, 5 aces).

Against the Colonels, Stoudemire had three kills, Perdue dished out five assists, and freshman Blair Nethery tallied a team-leading five digs.

Collins has another busy week next week. The Titans play at Trimble County on Monday and at Atherton on Tuesday before hosting Carroll County on Wednesday and Thomas Nelson on Thursday.

SHELBY COUNTY 3, SPENCER 0:The visiting Rockets (7-8, 2-4) routed the Bears (2-17, 0-5), 25-6, 25-18, 25-23, in a 30th District match Tuesday night in Taylorsville. Shelby County was led by senior Nikki Simmons and sophomore Abby Wills, who each had three kills and 10 digs.

The Rockets, who hosted Oldham County on Thursday night, close out their regular season with road matches at Nelson County on Tuesday and at Beth Haven on Thursday.



Collins and visiting John Hardin played to a 2-2 tie Wednesday on the Titans’ Senior Night and in their regular-season finale.  The Bulldogs took an early, 1-0 lead before the Titans tied the score on sophomore Jill Solinger’s goal 2:26 before halftime. Collins took the lead on Brittany Whitehead’s goal 55 seconds before intermission. John Hardin, however, matched that in the second half.

SHELBY COUNTY 2, SAYRE 2:The Rockets (7-11-3) and Spartans (5-5-5) played to a tie Wednesday on the Rockets’ Senior Night and their regular-season finale.


Cross country: Titan Classic set

Collins’ cross-country teams will host their third annual Titans Classic on Saturday morning. Shelby County is among the participating teams. The girls’ varsity race begins at 9 a.m. with the boys’ varsity race to follow around 9:45 a.m.
