Overnight lane closures will be utilized this week to finish paving on a section of eastbound Interstate 64 in Shelby County, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Tuesday.
These lane closures will allow for paving the final asphalt surface in the recently widened area between Simpsonville and Shelbyville (mile points 27.9 to 32.8). Paving was completed on the westbound lanes in late July and the roadway was opened to three lanes of traffic in the project area.
Eastbound I-64 will be reduced to one lane in the evenings this week from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. Paving ramps to the Welcome Center and rest area at mile point 28 is scheduled for Wednesday evening. The rest area will be closed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Once the eastbound I-64 paving is complete, contract crews will pave the final asphalt surface on KY 55 at the I-64 overpass.
The entrance and exit ramps at Exit 32 in Shelbyville are currently scheduled to be paved the week of August 18. Ramp closures will be necessary to complete this work.
Closure dates and times will be determined based on construction progress and weather. That information will be provided to the public as soon as it becomes available.
