Second Sunday event

This year's Second Sunday event will take place on Oct. 11, the second Sunday of the month and will offer Kentuckians the opportunity to take advantage of a statewide day for physical activity and to make a commitment to healthy lifestyle changes.

Second Sunday is an event coordinated by the UK Cooperative Extension Service through a partnership with UK HealthCare, local governments and other community partners. It encourages Kentuckians of all ages to participate in all forms of physical activity in the comfort of their local environment.

Sheila Fawbush, Shelby County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, has worked with community partners to plan Shelby County's local event that is co-sponsored by the Shelby County/Shelbyville Parks and Recreation.

This year’s event will be a progressive park day. The schedule is 2-3 p.m. at the Red Orchard Park; 3-4 p.m. at Clear Creek Family Activity Center; and 4-5 p.m. at the Finchville Park.

Individuals who sign in and participate in some form of physical activity such as walking at each of these times and locations will receive a free gift. Participants will also be placed in a drawing for quarterly family memberships at the Clear Creek Park Family Activity Center.  Three quarterly family memberships will be given away, one at each location.

If you would like to celebrate Second Sunday at your home or in your local community, please contact your Shelby County Extension Office at 633-4593 to have a sign-up sheet mailed to your home.

Those who are physically active on Oct. 11 and complete the information sheet will be placed in a special drawing for several local gift cards.
