Disc Jockey Matt Holladay will host a Halloween costume party, All Hallows Rave, tonight at Gallrein Farms.
About 300 people are expected to attend, starting at 7 p.m.
Holladay, a native of New Albany, Ind., who moved to Shelbyville area about eight years, said he took his lifelong interest in music to the next level, becoming a DJ.
"I've always had an interest in music," he said. "I fell in love with dance music and wanted to be able to make a career out of making people feel the way I did when I first heard dance music...alive and vibrant."
Holladay, who formed a new company called Arch Angel Productions, said he has collected many pieces of equipment to mix regular dance music with separate sound effects and blend into a new music presentation that digitally creates the affects of old vinyl turntables.
For example, he downloads songs onto a laptop, which allows him to manipulate the original song, add sounds and create custom-made songs.
He adds a light show that includes lasers, strobes and scanners, intelligent lighting that synchronizes with the music.
He said tonight's dance would be "strictly dance and techno" music.
Techno songs refer to the custom remixed songs he has developed to suit his tastes.
The dance will feature a costume contest. Roving judges will go throughout the dance floor noting the best costumes. Prizes will also be given away throughout the night. Holladay wants to eventually incorporate charity events into his dance events. He hopes to contribute a portion of future dances to charities he supports.
The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the dance will continue well into the morning "until about 4 a.m.," said Holladay. Prizes will be free t-shirts, glow sticks and other music-related items.
Tickets are $15 with a costume, and $20 without one. Guests must be 18 to attend the dance.
