Address: 171 Alpine Drive, Shelbyville

Who we are: Owners Nate and Melissa Tanner have turned an eBay hobby into a business. Melissa Tanner holds a degree in business administration, and Nate Tanner has been an active seller on eBay for 6+ years, with 700+ positive feedback. As he began to take over the family’s garage with eBay merchandise, Melissa Tanner encouraged him to expand and develop his hobby into a full-time business.

What we do: There are really 2 sides to The Empty Closet. The first side is the eBay listings. A customer brings in an item he or she hopes to sell on eBay, and Nate will have a consultation with them. Together they will decide if the item is sellable, its value and the terms of the listing. The second side is the consignment piece. Melissa Tanner heads up this side of the business. Customers call to schedule appointments to bring in consignment, and this merchandise is available for sale in the store. Currently the shop has Christmas merchandise, home décor, artwork, jewelry, infant boys, children girls, juniors and both men and women adult clothing. Melissa Tanner boasts about the name brands her store currently has to offer, such as GAP, Calvin Klein, Abercrombie, Hollister and Old Navy, to name a few. The store is currently accepting consignment for infant girls, children and junior boys and home décor.

What we say: “This is the perfect time to think about listing items on eBay!,” Melissa Tanner said. “The last week of November and the first two weeks of December are the busiest days for online shopping! We will be doing a grand opening on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. We will be offering 10 percent off all in-store purchases and an extra 10 percent your way on any eBay listings that day.”
