-A A +A

The Shelbyville area NAACP branch welcomed Carl Hilliard, new director at Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center, with a reception. NAACP officers with Hilliard (from left) are Janice Harris, president; Evette Beasley, vice president; and Veronica May, treasurer. Hilliard received a welcome letter from Shelbyville Mayor Tom Hardesty, a gift from the Shelby County Visitors and Tourism Bureau and a 1-year complimentary membership to the NAACP branch. Hilliard has more than 20 years of experience with Job Corps, serving 14 of those years as a center director in Illinois, Michigan, Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio. The NAACP plans to work with Dr. Hilliard and the staff at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center to help its students better understand the mission of the NAACP, which is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic quality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
