Firefighters were still battling an earlier morning fire Thursday afternoon that destroyed a home in a Mt. Eden subdivision.
Doug Herndon, assistant chief of the Mt. Eden Volunteer Fire Department, said fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the residence at 10 Indian Springs sometime about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, where they found the two-story home already engulfed in flames.
"Soon as I arrived on scene it was fully involved," Herndon said.
About 40 Shelby County and Shelbyville firefighters attempted to control the blaze for several hours, but failed to salvage the home, Herndon said.
"The living quarters were pretty much a total loss. But we did save some of the garage."
The home's owner was reportedly in the garage when the fire started. No one was injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office. Arson is not expected, Herndon said.
