As the skies began to clear Monday, Mount Eden Fire Department trucks led the way with lights flashing and sirens blaring for the annual Independence Day Parade. As American flags waved, churches flaunted their floats that they spent weeks working on for a friendly competition against one another, community members rode in on their horses, politicians waved and kids (and some adults) were more than happy to gather up the free candy being tossed their way. Despite some sprinkled rain here and there, the crowd was larger than in previous years, with people from all over the surrounding counties, and the spirits were up for this patriotic event.
