Matthews receives state honors

Senior Shelby County High School quarterback Alex Matthews has recently been named among the best high school football players in the state by three major newspapers.

The Louisville Courier-Journal, Lexington Herald-Leader and Orlando Sentinel all named Matthews as one of Kentucky's top players in 2007.

Matthews said he was surprised and delighted at the accolades.

This past season, along with leading the Rockets to an 8-5 record, Matthews tied a state record by throwing 9 touchdowns in a playoff win at Scott County.
