A Shelby County man has been charged with child abuse because Shelbyville police say he bit his infant son on the face.

Froylan Rios-Campos, 19, of 461 Midland Blvd., was arrested at 11 p.m. Tuesday at his residence and charged with fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

A report by the Shelbyville Police Department says that Rios-Campos’ 9-month old son had multiple bite marks on the side of his face and that the marks had been visible for four days. The incident allegedly happened on July 9.

The report said that the child did not receive any medical attention for the wounds.

No motivation was given for the attack on the child. The report lists Rios-Campos as not being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.

Shelbyville Police Department spokesperson Kelly Cable said he could not comment on the child’s home situation, because the case is still under investigation, but he added that the child has been removed and placed in the care of grandparents.

Rios-Campos is being held at the Shelby County Detention Center under a $2,500 cash bond.

His arraignment has not been scheduled.
