Mindi Keiner-Rummel (seated) and Nura Mandeel look over one of a table full of books they purchased by receiving a $500 MAC grant for math literacy. Recent math research shows that when students are able to make connections in math especially through stories and or themes, they are more likely to learn the concept and be able to apply it. A great way to do this is through stories that have an underlying math theme or story that involves mathematical concepts, according to Mandeel.
