Local dollar store robbed

A white male wearing a hoodie robbed the Dollar General Store located at 21 Mt. Tabor Court Monday night.

The robbery occurred at about 8:30 p.m.

No one was injured according to a Shelbyville police report, but the man did flee with an undetermined amount of cash after pushing the clerk aside and pulling money from the register.

The suspect is described as a white male about six feet tall with a slim build wearing a gray hooded jacket, jeans and a toboggan.

Shelbyville Police Chief Bob Schutte said he has not ruled out the possibility that the suspect may be the same man who robbed two businesses on Taylorsville Road earlier this month.

"We've already been in touch with the sheriff's department and are looking at some possible leads," he said.

However, both Gamestop located at 107 Jeanie Road, and Subway, located at 93 Howard Drive, were robbed at gunpoint, and the suspect in the Dollar General Store did not imply he had a gun, Schutte said.

Shelbyville Sheriff's Detective Jason Rice said the suspect in the two county robberies was described as a white male wearing a partial face mask and a hoodie. Witnesses said the suspect raised his sweatshirt to reveal a silver handgun tucked in the waist of his pants in both robberies, Rice said.

The two businesses robbed in the past two weeks were robbed near closing time, and in both robberies, the suspect took an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot from the store.

No one was injured in either robbery.
