Boost for organ donation

I wanted to thank Josh Cook for doing a column (“A gift that means life,” Feb. 13) organ donation. We at the circuit clerk’s office ask the question daily (Would you like to be a registered organ donor?) and hope we are making a difference when asking. Cook’s piece talked about his young friend Nolan and his life is a boost to the staff to know we are making a difference in someone’s life.

As of December 2012, we have 14,383 people in Shelby County who are on the organ donor register, and we are grateful for each and every one. The $1 donation they make is to raise organ donor awareness, thru out the state.

Unfortunately there are 18 people who die every day waiting for an organ transplant.

The Kentucky Trust for Life program was the first such program in the United States. Now 30 other states have similar programs. We are teaching that everyone can join the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry to save lives – regardless of age or medical history.

More than 900 kids and adults in Kentucky are waiting for a life-saving transplant. Every 10 minutes someone is added to the waiting list. In 2011, approximately 29,000 successful organ transplants were performed. It’s estimated that twice as many could be performed if more people donated organs.

We have more than 1.2 million Kentuckians signed up, but we’re asking so we can reach 2 million on the registry.

Thanks, again, to Josh Cook and his article.

Let’s wake up

Praise God and wake up, America.

Why are we shocked when we hear someone walked into a school, mall or movie theater with a gun.

Hollywood is so consumed with making money. They don’t care what you or your children watch. Television, the Internet and electronic games are so violent.

Our children are taught that there is no creation. They are taught that they evolved from a bacteria into an ape and on into humans. No organization, just an accident.

People want to take our lord and savior out of this country. We have slapped God in the face so often. How much more can he stand?

If you take guns from honest people, the bad guys are going to steal them or get them from black markets. They can get instructions how to make bombs off the Internet.

You say it’s OK to take the life of innocent babies. They think, why not your children.

Where is morality, respect of life and love for one another?

Heartfelt love and prayers to all affected. Wake up, America!

Disasters for jobs

Why is it that we never read about our government using the national weather disasters as a  tremendous opportunity to teach a new vocation to the millions of people out of work? Not only restore the unfortunate people to their homes sooner, but also it may turn a person’s life around. Let us remember the WPA or CCC. Many people learned a new trade, which later changed their lives. Why let them sit home doing absolutely nothing and drawing money from the government?
